Thunder, for the first time

I kayaked and I swam.
And it rained. And it thundered.
I heard the thunder for the first time—underwater.
I did not know it were thunder only when heard underwater.
I swam in the muck—among the bacteria I study only in a computer.
I swam in the gentle rain, and the muck, and it thundered for the first time.
I was a child again.
Something in my day was for the first time again.
I swam in the muck again and I heard thunder for the first time.
